Re-examination of complete spreading of polydimethylsiloxane droplets

چکیده
The motion of the three-phase line created by a liquid droplet on a flat solid substrate has been extensively studied for more than a century, yet the constitutive relation governing this motion remains unclear. When a liquid droplet is placed in contact with a flat substrate, the system is driven towards equilibrium. The contact angle relaxes from its initial value at the moment of contact, towards its equilibrium angle, θ∞ . The system is believed to be in equilibrium when its configuration satisfies minimal energy, described by the Young-Dupree equation, i.e.,

Statistical Modeling for Oblique Collision of Nano and Micro Droplets in Plasma Spray Processes
Spreading and coating of nano and micro droplets on solid surfaces is important in a wide variety of applications including plasma spray coating, ink jet printing, DNA synthesis and etc. In spraying processes, most of droplets collide obliquely to the surface. The purpose of this article is to study the distribution of nano and micro droplets spreading when droplets impact at an oblique a...
متن کاملDynamic wetting and spreading and the role of topography.
The spreading of a droplet of a liquid on a smooth solid surface is often described by the Hoffman-de Gennes law, which relates the edge speed, v(e), to the dynamic and equilibrium contact angles θ and θ(e) through [Formula: see text]. When the liquid wets the surface completely and the equilibrium contact angle vanishes, the edge speed is proportional to the cube of the dynamic contact angle. ...
متن کاملDynamic Behavior of Non-Newtonian Droplets Impinging on Solid Surfaces
This article illustrates the spreading and receding characteristics of non-Newtonian droplets impinging on solid surfaces at different Weber numbers. A xanthan gum solution was used to generate non-Newtonian droplets. From digital images captured using a high speed camera, spreading diameters and dynamic contact angles (DCA) were measured during the impact process. Depending on impact velocity,...
متن کاملSimulations of Solid–on–Solid Models of Spreading of Viscous Droplets
We have studied the dynamics of spreading of viscous non–volatile fluids on surfaces by Monte Carlo simulations of solid–on–solid (SOS) models. We have concentrated on the complete wetting regime, with surface diffusion barriers neglected for simplicity. First, we have performed simulations for the standard SOS model. Formation of a single precursor layer, and a density profile with a spherical...

The selective manipulation and incubation of individual picoliter drops in high-throughput droplet based microfluidic devices still remains challenging. We used a surface acoustic wave (SAW) to induce a bubble in a 3D designed multi-trap polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) device to manipulate multiple droplets and demonstrate the selection, incubation and on-demand release of aqueous droplets from a c...
